Laura Whitmore and Paul Mescal, two of our most celebrated and stylish exports, flew the flag for Ireland at the Fashion Awards, which were held in London’s Royal Albert Hall tonight.
The glamorous pair were among the many celebs turning heads on the red carpet, alongside Kris Jenner, Lily Allen and dazzling host Billy Porter.
A fashion spectacle to rival New York City’s Met Gala, the Fashion Awards celebrates achievements in fashion and highlights those who push at the fashion world boundaries.
It has become known as a fashion world highlight thanks to a number of high-profile statement appearances, including a pregnant Meghan Markle in a one-shoulder velvet dress, and Rihanna in mint green satin and chiffon.
A number of awards were awarded during the night, including Designer of the Year and the BFC Foundation Award. Tommy Hilfiger went home with the Outstanding Achievement Award, while Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele won the Trailblazer Award for his work to establish Gucci as one of the most culturally significant brands in entertainment today.
After a virtual ceremony last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s ceremony proved to be a spectacular event with outfits to match.
Laura Whitmore looked every inch the fashion darling in a bold and daring ensemble styled by Emma Lane. She wore a vibrant sequinned midi dress in shades of pink, gold and mint green by Ted Baker, which featured a high neckline, cut-out back, loose sleeves and a racy thigh-high slit.
She paired this with a pair of high nude platform heels that made her look even taller, and an assortment of rings.

But even more glamorous was her beauty look, one of her most high-fashion. Taking inspiration from the rich metallics of her dress, makeup artist Tori Ball created a dazzling eyeshadow look with peachy contour and a full gold lid. She amped this up with a glossy pink highlighter, contour, strong brows and a muted nude lip.
Vying for attention was Laura’s “Lego hair”, as she called it on Instagram: a 1930’s-inspired finger wave look created by Sophie Sugarman of The Mane Stylish, who set Laura’s hair in rigid waves leading to a tight, low bun.
Paul Mescal went almost as bold in a full Gucci look, wearing a lemon yellow satin blazer emblazoned with intricate embroidery, over a matching yellow shirt and accessorised with a black tie and simple black trousers.
Bright pops of colour were a strong trend on the red carpet, with Gabrielle Union-Wade wowing in a highlighter-yellow ballgown by Valentino. Tommy Hilfiger himself opted for a rich midnight blue velvet tuxedo, while supermodel Jourdan Dunn wore a stunning architectural red gown.
Also popular were bold prints, with a number of stars rocking dramatic designs by Richard Quinn. Known for his hyper-exaggerated floral motifs and inventive use of textures like PVC and crystals, Quinn’s designs were worn by everyone from TikTok megastar Addison Rae – who wore a mermaid-esque gown in black and pink – to Priyanka Chopra, who wore an opulent gown in shades of red and orange.
Also rocking a bold pattern was host Billy Porter, who looked hypnotic in a striking black and white gown by Richard Quinn, featuring towering shoulder pads.
