Why This Beauty Writer Wears Floral Fragrance All Year
Florals for spring may not be groundbreaking, but you wanna know what is? Wearing florals… all year round… as your perfume of choice.
Maybe (re: obvi) groundbreaking is a bit dramatic, but hear me out: Floral scents are, and always will be, apropos any time of year, for any type of date or event. As a beauty writer, I’m lucky to have a medicine cabinet stocked with dozens of different fragrances. And yet, day after day, despite the many other options literally right in front of my face, I always end up reaching for a perfume with bright, flowery notes. It could be a snowy, winter day or the middle of a hot, humid summer—doesn’t matter, I’m sticking with my favorite uplifting botanical perfumes. Here’s why.
They Are Classic (And Classy)
There are just certain things in life—a little black dress, a bold red lip, a strong martini—that will never go out of style, and perfume of the floral variety is one of them. Put simply, it will never not be a good idea to invest in a quality floral fragrance.
Today’s flowery fragrances are not the stuffy, potpourri-esque perfumes your grandmother used to wear. They are bold, innovative, modern, and yes, always classy.
Floral Scents Elevate Your Mood—Instantly
Fragrance is an inherently sensorial experience and it has the power to transport us. You know what I’m talking about—certain scents can instantly trigger a fond memory or spark a specific emotion. It’s powerful stuff—seriously, a growing body of research suggests that floral scents can help improve mood.
So, when I spritz on perfume, I want it to help make me feel more energized and joyful. To transport me from my bathroom in Brooklyn to a lush garden far, far away—floral scents, whether blended with a bit of bright citrus or a hint of sensual amber, can do just that.
One of my all-time favorites, Floreale Vince Camuto Eau De Parfum (a new, special edition fragrance celebrating the brand’s 10th anniversary) combines all of the above. The blend is fresh with notes of pink peony, red orchid, jasmine, and bergamot.

Floral Scents May Give Your Brain a Boost
Not only can inhaling a beautiful botanical fragrance help improve your mood, it’s also been shown to potentially boost memory and cognition. The scent of lavender, specifically, may even help your brain recharge during the workday, according to one study.
In other words, there’s some truth to the old adage, stop and smell the roses. For me, a little spritz of floral fragrance often makes me feel more awake and efficient circa my daily 3p.m. slump. I find that it also works wonders at the end of the workday, before going out to dinner or on a date, giving me a little extra boost before heading out the door.
Bottom line: Scent is powerful, and bouquets are meaningful for a reason—just like flowers can brighten up your day, so too can they boost your mood and brainpower.
